Olympic Village 90% Complete
In a show of commitment, construction of Egypt’s Olympic Village is already 90% complete, according to Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy. The facility, located in the new administrative capital, just 45 kilometers east of Cairo, is part of the expansive Egypt International Olympic City project.
The development includes a 90,000-seat stadium, Olympic-standard swimming pools, tennis courts, indoor arenas, and accommodation for athletes—designed to meet and exceed international standards.
Presidential and Continental Backing
Sobhy revealed that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has personally endorsed the country’s Olympic aspirations, granting official approval to proceed with the application. The bid is also receiving strong backing from Mustapha Berraf, President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), who reaffirmed Africa’s support for Egypt’s efforts.
IOC President Thomas Bach, during a recent visit to Cairo, expressed optimism about Africa's potential to host future Games. Notably, Africa remains the only populated continent yet to host an Olympic Games.
